Product Development Manager

Department: R&D
Region: Midwest (US)

One of the Madison area’s most creative, high-profile companies, ETC, a global leader in entertainment, currently has an opening for a Product Development Manager in our R&D department!

We are looking for someone who is able to effectively lead and motivate a team and who is able to foster a positive, collaborative, and fun work environment. Our ideal candidate will have knowledge of ETC products, a strong working knowledge of engineering disciplines, and excellent communication, problem solving, and customer service skills.

Representative Responsibilities:
• Oversees the Product Development efforts for all projects within a product family or families
• Leads research into new technologies that advance our existing products or lead to new products
• Participates in product requirements and design definition, contribute to product quality assurance requirements
• Monitors efficiency of the department and make improvements where appropriate
• Selects and maintains qualified personnel in all positions and recommends compensation for them
• Assigns personnel to projects ensuring they have a clear understanding of tasks and deliverables
• Work with Steering Team on resources planning against the Product Family Road Map
• Develops annual department budget and staffing requirements
• Provide leadership to facilitate good teamwork, enthusiasm, and morale
• Product Family Responsibilities:
• Work with Project Management, project team members and company management to ensure that projects are completed on time, to specification, and within budget
• Work with the Project Team and Company management to identify and remove obstacles during product development
• Strong working knowledge of the Product Family and the development process
• Work with Project Management and Technical Product Management on project milestones, budget, deliverables, and goals

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Coordinates and collaborates with other departments of the company in establishing and carrying out responsibilities
• Develop and maintain positive communication between department and other departments
• Performs the hiring, orientation, training, performance management, career development, and overall employee development of department personnel
• Formulates, implements & reviews ISO procedures related to the department
• Instructs employees about procedures and work instructions
• Informs employees as to company/departmental plans and progress
• Maintains reporting on all department activities
• Continue to monitor efficiency in the department and make improvements where appropriate

Additional Responsibilities:
• Other duties as assigned.
• Special projects and requests are completed in a timely and positive fashion

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre, Engineering or Project Management, or 8 years of comparable experience in increasingly responsible positions
• Demonstrated product development experience
• 0-3 years previous supervisory experience
• Knowledge of company policies
• Motivation and leadership skills
• Excellent communications, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Computer skills
• Has consistently demonstrated the ability to perform the duties of a Sr. Engineer and/or Team Lead or Project Manager
• Proficient in product development from concept to production
• Proficient in test system design, development, and troubleshooting
• Has a strong working knowledge of all products within a product family, also a working knowledge of other product families within R&D
• Understands and applies best practices for multiple engineering disciplines within the department
• Assists with design or modification of a product, service, or process
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and perform multiple tasks without general supervision
