Component Engineer - part-time LTE 1 year

Department: Manufacturing Engineering
Region: Midwest (US)

Representative Responsibilities and Standards:
•Electrical and Component engineering
•Specify and identify Crystals, Switches, Resistors Inductors, Transistors, Connectors, Capacitors, ICs (chips), Diodes/LEDs
•Identify electronic component that are candidates for obsolesce
•Assist in the redesign of ETC electrical and electronic products
•Coordinate component engineering activities across all product lines
•Develop design solutions for electronic component problems and specifications
•Entering all related information into the MRP: ETC part number, description, Manufacturer, Warehouse and Planner codes
•Analyze product designs and processes for cost reduction opportunities
•Analyze production processes and develop process improvement plans
•Lead, develop and implement product and process improvement projects and teams
•Develop and implement process standards both at ETC and with vendors
•Assist in vendor and manufacturer relationships to ensure quality products at the optimal cost are being used.
•Insure changes occur in a timely fashion.
•Identify alternative manufactures and sources for components
•Insure selected parts meet quality standards.
•Assists in the Management and release of standard products into manufacturing.
•New tools and jigs are designed and developed if necessary.
•Manufacturing plan is developed and approved.
•Manufacturing engineering issues are addressed and resolved during new product development process.
•Documentation is complete and accurate before product is released to production.
•Bill of Materials (BOM) are structure appropriately and accurate for new parts.
•Part numbers are assigned and new parts have accurate descriptions.
•Appropriate vendors are selected to supply parts for new products.
•Provide engineering support to the manufacturing of already released standard products.
•ISO procedures related to Manufacturing Engineering are followed.
•Responses to production issues provide appropriate solutions in a timely fashion.
•Products not meeting standards are put on hold.
•Provide supervision and guidance to Associate Engineer and Drafter.
•The most appropriate training methods are identified and training is provided in the time frame set by management.
•Enure that objective and substantial input is provided into employees’ performance appraisal throughout the appraisal period and before evaluations are due.
•Written evaluations are completed on time.
•No surprises occur in the evaluation discussion.
•Assist management with the enforcement of company policy.
•Management is informed of policy breaches as soon possible.
•Action is taken to enforce policy when appropriate.
•Other duties as assigned.
•Complete special projects and requests in a timely and positive fashion.
•Participate in the recruitment and hiring of employees.
•Proper paperwork is completed to begin the recruiting process.
•Pertinent information is gained from interview to determine the applicant’s skills and his/her fit within ETC.
•Candidate evaluation form is completed and submitted to Human Resources.
•Participate in the development and rollout of training as it relates to process and manufacturing engineering.
 Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
•Strong knowledge of general electrical, electronic, testing and manufacturing engineering principles
•Strong knowledge of electronic components
•Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance agencies
•Auto CAD, PADS or related skills
•Able to use electronic and mechanical measuring devices
•Strong organizational, communications and interpersonal skills
•Knowledge of company policies
•Excellent attention to detail
•Supervisory skills
•Demonstrate the ability to make independent decisions.
•Demonstrate the ability to solve problems of moderate scope.

Education and Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of experience in engineering, or
•Associates degree and 6-8 years of experience in engineering, or
•High school diploma, plus 10-12 years of specialized training in engineering
